Registration of Students in Texas with Visual Impairments and Texas Deafblind Child Count has begun!

Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired under the direction of the Texas Education Agency and in co-ordination with the 20 Regional Education Service Centers are updating the listing of students with visual impairment and DeafBlindness in Texas. These counts generate federal funds for educational materials, and the data helps Texas plan for specialized services at the local, regional and statewide level. The deadline for completing the updated counts is January 31, 2018. For more information regarding both counts, including informative video tutorials, please visit TSBVI Deafblind Child Count.

100 Years and Better Than Ever

If you missed the celebration on campus last month, you may view a brief video commemorating 100 years at TSBVI's permanent location in north Austin with all the exciting changes that have taken place over the years; interviews with alumni, current and former staff, and footage from the 1920's to 2017. A text transcript and mp3 audio file are also available.

2017 Guidelines and Standards for Educating Students with Visual Impairments

The new guidelines and standards are now available for download in PDF and DOCX formats. Spanish versions in PDF and DOCX.

From the TSBVI card catalog you can now search for books by name or braille format (contracted/uncontracted), braille translator extension (abt, brf, or dxb), or braille translator name (Braille2000 or Duxbury). And, you can search for UEB books - we will have some up by the new year.

Texas Surplus Textbook Redistribution

The Special Textbook Redistribution Center (STRC) will accept surplus braille and large-print instructional materials from November 6, 2017, through March 29, 2018.
