Blind students with white canes waiting to cross Congress Avenue, a busy six lane road.

November 7-11, 2016

This Event is  Sponsored by TSBVI

Does your supervisor understand the scope of students and the range of their challenges?

Does your supervisor have experience with the itinerant role?

Have you thought that even a half-day a year could make a difference in programming and support?

Then invite your boss to drive a mile in your shoes!

Join the 6th annual statewide Bring Your Boss to Work Week: November 7-11, 2016, sponsored by TSBVI.

Inviting your boss to shadow you can help him or her

  • understand the variety of the students you support, and
  • provide you with a chance for informal and child-specific conversations about being an itinerant VI professional; about the importance of expanded core curriculum programming, professional development and coordination.

This can be your chance to shine!

Consider taking part in this ground-breaking approach to expanding administrator understanding and support by inviting your boss to work with you.

Download the forms from the links provided at the bottom of this page. Give an invitation to your supervisor. The following tips will help you be successful:

  • Write your supervisor's name at the top and sign the invitation at the bottom.
  • Give your supervisor the invitation early. Calendars quickly get filled up. DON'T WAIT! You want as many scheduling options as possible.
  • Encourage a time when you will showcase your unique skills and expertise:
    • Request that your supervisor spends half a day, if possible, to see more than a single student. Part of the goal is to help him or her see the scope of what you do.
    • Your supervisor's schedule may drive the choice of times. However, if possible, promote a block of time:
      • that highlights assessment and/or instruction in the expanded core curriculum,
      • when you are completing a FVE/LMA or
      • when you are working with a student in a non-traditional setting.

In other words, show off your VI expertise and the unique role of a VI professional!

Everyone who completes a ½ page survey and gets their supervisor's signature will receive an iTunes or Google Play gift card (Sponsored by All Blind Children of Texas).  Surveys must be received by December 16, 2016.

Participants will be entered into a drawing for free registration for a TSBVI sponsored conference.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like paper copies of additional invitations.
