"The Texas Deafblind Project has been our lifeline as we began our journey as parents of our beautiful daughter who has vision and hearing impairments."

FamilyLetter-BegYourJourney

Dear Family,

Many families who have infants and toddlers say they spend these first precious years trying to learn as much as they can about their child. Where can I find supports and resources? Who are the professionals and what can they do to help? What does it mean that my child has both a vision and hearing loss? Some families share that they do not know what questions to ask or where to turn. You may feel the same way.

Our project is here to support you along your child's educational journey, from birth until age 22. The Texas Deafblind Project offers free support, information, and training statewide with a focus on issues for children with combined vision and hearing loss. As a part of an annual Child Count report collected for the Texas Education Agency, you gave permission to share your family's contact information so that we could connect with you.

Included with this letter are a few resources to help you get started. We can offer you additional information and support if and when you would like them.

Please connect with us at http://www.tsbvi.edu/family-db to:

  • Learn about additional resources for your child and your family
  • Make sure we have your preferred contact information
  • Get added to our mailing list for news and opportunities of interest to your family.
  • Complete a short 5 minute survey about your current services

Our project staff has experience and knowledge in working alongside families who have children with both vision and hearing impairments. We hope to have the opportunity to offer our support to you.

You can connect with Edgenie Bellah, our Family Engagement Specialist, at (512) 206-9423 or to learn about the different supports available to you.
